Today I’d like to share these cute Thomas the Train cupcakes that my friend made for her son’s 4th birthday party.
As you can see these adorable cupcakes have little trains on top of EACH cupcake. The kids couldn’t have been more excited to find a real toy train on top of their sweet treat! These cupcakes were made by my talented girlfriend, Nicole, yes-the same person who hand painted Gwen a birdie print for her baby room. This is the 4th year that she’s made amazing cupcakes for her son’s birthday.
Here’s the party invitation (from Tiny Prints) that set the theme for the choo-choo train party.
She placed the trains on top of pieces red licorice (similar to a log boom) so that they wouldn’t get frosting smeared all over them. Then secured each train to the licorice with Washi Tape so that it wouldn’t fall of the top of the cupcake.
This was my first time hearing about or seeing Washi tape. At first glance, I thought it was a ribbon but it looked like plastic so I was confused. I now know what a HUGE trend it is because it can be used on just about any craft project (see how Joy used it on her card). I was excited to learn about this new product from Nicole, thanks for the introduction! I can’t wait to get some and try it out on one of my projects.
Here’s a great blog post where Lisa describes just what Washi tape is and where you can purchase.
To keep with the train theme I used this train cutout as the hero item for the birthday card.
I based the card off of Card Sketch #3 found at Sketch Support.
Here’s the birthday boy in his cute train conductor hat and Gavin wearing his striped hat too. Happy 4th Birthday sweet boy!
