baby Girl Room

I’ve finally finished up the baby girl room.  I am chuckling because Gwen’s already three months old but you know it’s better late than never.  I definitely procrastinated and didn’t really start doing anything until 1 month before she arrived in May.  In the months since she was born, I would work on it as I could but the first two months there wasn’t much spare time.   The first week of September I hung the last mirrors on the wall and then Gwen & I took these photos so that we can remember & share with friends.

Thank you to grandma & grandpa who came over to paint the room in May.  I was thrilled that they volunteered to help out and got the painting done in one day.  It would have taken me much, much longer to complete the job.  Gavin also enjoyed helping out with the painting, vacuuming and climbing the ladder anytime he could sneak into Gwen’s room.

I had so much fun selecting all of the items for Gwen’s room.  I knew that I couldn’t possibly paint the walls pink, I had to tread into the baby girl arena slowly so I choose something that’s more neutral & soothing.  Potpourri Green (Benjamin Moore) is on the walls, the curtains are green polka dot and the comforter is primarily green too.  I found just about everything in the room at Pottery Barn Kids.  The two cute plush owls "Penny & Joy" inspired me to use the owl theme.  Gavin loves that Gwen’s owl (small pink one) has the same name as their grandmother Penny.   Next, Nicole offered to paint a beautiful bird print for the wall that was going to fit perfectly with the owl theme from the sheets & quilt.    From there everything else was super easy to select.

throughout the room, I used pink as an accent color and surprisingly choose a bright pink chenille rug to contrast with the green. I got a white crib from Susan, which saved me hours from having to sand & repaint Gavin’s crib white.  After hearing about Michelle’s beautiful banners for so long and knowing her great scrapbook pages I asked her to make one for the room.  She made a beautiful "Gwenyth" pennant banner using the Basic Grey paper that I selected (same paper Nicole used for the birds/flowers in the painting).   Shawna gifted a sweet "baby Gwen" banner, cute pink/green felt owls and custom block set spelling "Gwenyth" for the shower that fit perfectly into the room.

One thing that I love about all the elements around the room is that so many different friends & family have contributed to make such a loving space for our baby girl.  I think of you every time we play and use her room.  I am so pleased with how it’s turned out and enjoy the time I sit in the rocking chair with Gwen.  She started sleeping in her own room at 2 1/2 months and we are thrilled to all be getting more sleep.  🙂
