Snow Adventure Layout

Snow Adventure_Laurel Lane Crafts (4)

Happy New Year!  I am so excited about 2013.  Tonight I have been writing down some of my personal goals for the new year.  Just thinking of the things I’d like to cross off my craft goal list makes me excited.

Today I’d like to share a winter snow layout.  These photos were taken two years ago during our holiday break.  I love having time off from work and being able to do day trips up to the pass to enjoy the snow.

Gavin loved the snow and had a great time building “lig-loos” with daddy.  After seeing these pictures I can’t wait to get out to play on the slopes or go tubing.

This layout is based on an Allison Davis (Scrapbook Generation) sketch.  I decided to add my journaling block to the left side of the layout because I wanted the blue/white plaid pattern to show through. I added some snowflake circle accents to add some detail to this bottom panel.

I love the snowflakes in this collection.  Especially the polka dot navy & red one above.  Polka dots are my favorite!!

Happy 2013!!

Dear Santa Layout

Today is Day 12 of the 12 Days of Christmas posts on Laurel Lane.

Merry Christmas! I hope you’ve enjoyed the holiday time.

Tonight I’d like to show you my last two Santa layouts that are in the Santa album.    Last night I showed you year one.  Below you’ll see years two & three.   Year four can be seen here

Throughout this book I am sticking to the same layout for all the pages.   It’s based on a sketch by Allison Davis.

Both of these were done 2-3 years ago right after the photo with Santa.

Year Two

I used the same Basic Grey paper for both layouts. The great thing about this layout is that it doesn’t take much paper. Since the photos are so large I don’t add extra embellishments. I want the photos to be the focus of the layouts.

Year Three:    As I look at the photo I see I need to add an astrosphere to Santa’s in the title!  Funny how I didn’t notice before.

This wraps up my 12 days posts.  I’ve had fun doing some scrapbooking scrapbooking this month and am always motivated by a challenge.  I have a few more winter layouts I’m planning to to finish up this week so that I can move on to another portion of my long scrapbooking to-do list.    I hope you’ve enjoyed the increased posts the last two weeks.

First Santa Visit Layout

Today is Day 11 of the 12 Days of Christmas posts on Laurel Lane.

I’d like to share another Santa layout from our first year visiting Santa.  When my son was a baby I started a Santa book and now every year I add the new layout too this 12×12 book.  It’s a great way to keep all the Santa photos together and to see the big changes in the kids each year.

I only use two photos on the layout, a big 8×10 and then a 5×7.  I’ve used the same sketch for all years so far and it’s been a great way to keep some consistency between all the layouts.

Here’s the layout:   I made this layout 3 years ago and have since been adding a new Santa layout to the album each year.

I’ve already shared year #4 in this post last week.    Next I’ll let you see the other two years.  I like having theme albums because they are motivating to do since there’s a structure to what goes in the album.  The layouts seem so easy to tackle.

Merry Christmas!  I hope all your Santa wishes come true.  We celebrated with a feast here tonight, a yummy home cooked dinner and great time with our family.

My Christmas Wish Layout

Today is Day 8 of the 12 Days of Christmas posts on Laurel Lane.

I’d like to share another Christmas layout that I completed just this week.  I found the sketch, printed the photos and then did the layout all this week.  I love scrapbooking during weekdays!  (when I have time off from work)

I am excited how this one came together because I think this paper worked out perfectly.  I’ve used Nordic Holiday again (Basic Grey) and I just love this collection.  It’s so warm and cozy.  The green pattern on the right looks just like the cute sweaters my two nieces are wearing.  Thanks girls for the inspiration.  It’s such a perfect combo!

I used one of Allison Davis’ sketches (two page #25)  I choose this sketch because it gives you the opportunity to show a lot of pattern papers!  All of the pieces used here are very busy but I still think it works.  It’s not my typical use of patterns but I really like it and want to use this one again.

Here’s the sketch:

I used the Santa, snowflake & heart chipboard shapes.  Also used the the title & word stickers that I popped up with pop-dots.

Now I just have two more 2010 holiday layouts to complete (Christmas Day & Gingerbread Houses).  I am already done with my 2011 holiday layouts so I am very motivated to finish these last two and wrap up my holiday work.  I still have some Nordic Holiday left so I am hoping that I can use it for one more layout.

Today is Day 7 of the 12 Days of Christmas posts on Laurel Lane.

Tonight I’d like to share another layout made with the My Minds Eye 12 Days of Christmas Collection.  This is my last one from 2011 and tomorrow I’ll be showing you some other collections.

I’ve enjoyed using this collection for three of my 2011 layouts.  It’s worked perfectly with having a new baby girl who’s wearing pink clothes.

This layout is based on Two-Page sketch #1 by Allison Davis at Scrapbook Generation.  I’ve done this before in a Halloween layout and I was thrilled to use it again.

Tonight I started and completed a holiday layout (I’ll show you later this week) from Christmas 2010.  I am excited to have gotten a layout done on a week night.  Each page I do always makes me even more motivated to do the next.  This is such an addicting hobby!

My layout features 8 photos and my favorite part about this one is that three of them are 4×6 (even enlarged one to 5×7) and then the others are quite large too with the squares being 4×4.

Happy Holidays Layout_Laurel Lane Crafts (15)

Here’s the sketch:   I changed all the sizes of the photos except for the three 4x4s.  This sketch is so versatile!

Close up of the cute chipboard presents.  I love the pinks blues and greens in these lovely pattern papers!

Merry & Bright Christmas Layout

Merry & Bright_Laurel Lane Blog (2)

Today is Day 6 of the 12 Days of Christmas posts on Laurel Lane.

I just finished putting the stamps & labels on my holiday cards and I’m excited to put them in the mailbox in the morning!

Last night I was up late finishing some digital albums for Christmas gifts.  I can’t wait to see the finished products when the books arrive.  I use My Publisher and love their hardback book style with a book finish on the front.  My favorite part is selecting the photo for the front cover and back cover.  Having a huge photo on the front of a digital book can be so dramatic and make a statement.

Today I’d like to share a Christmas Day layout from last year.  This layout is based on one page sketch #3 (Allison Davis-Scrapbook Generation) that I’ve extended to two pages.

Here’s the left side of my page, it’s pretty close to the sketch except I’ve added a second border strip (the piece with the words) to the top/bottom of the photo block.  I’ve used the 12 Days of Christmas My Minds Eye collection and love how this line has pink included with the traditional holiday colors.  It’s just perfect for photos of girls wearing pink!    The sketch called for a journaling block in the bottom right square but I moved this off to the second page instead.

Merry & Bright_Laurel Lane Blog

I’ve stitched around the outside of the paper with green embroidery floss.  It gives a touch of texture and color to the plain green pattern sheet.   The “merry & bright” chipboard accent is the title.  In the past I haven’t used the stickers that came with the kits but recently I’ve been using them more and just love not having to make my own for each layout.  I think companies are getting better at making really great sentiment accents that are so usable.

Merry & Bright_Laurel Lane Blog (5)

Now here’s how the layout looks with both pages together.   I’ve incorporated 14 photos in total, the squares are 3×3 and the bottom left is 6×3.  The journaling block is also 3×3.  I love the size of the square photos and how many you can get in this one layout.

Hope you are getting all your holiday preparations completed!  Seeing this December 25th layout is making me excited for Christmas morning.  Good Night!

Same Sketch Two Layouts

Merry Christmas Layout (17)

Today is Day 5 of the 12 Days of Christmas posts on Laurel Lane.

I’d like to share some special layouts today from Christmas Eve.  My scrapbooking buddy Michelle & I choose the same sketch and the same supplies for a layout.  We didn’t plan this and were surprised when we showed up at the scrapbook retreat weekend planning to do the same page.

We both love all of Allison Davis’ sketches so it wasn’t too surprising that we decided to use her Two-Page sketch #23 for our layouts.

As soon I realized we were dong the same layout  and using My Minds Eye 12 Days of Christmas Collection supplies we didn’t look at each others pages.  I  thought it would be fun to see which patterns and embellishments each of us choose to use and didn’t want to be influenced (subconsciously or consciously) by Michelle’s layout.

Michelle has graciously agreed to let me share her layout with you today so you can see our fun little dual project!  This sketch has 5 Christmas trees as the main embellishments.  We had to cut them out of the pattern paper.  Michelle cut out cute ornaments to hang from the biggest tree.  She used chipboard stars and brads on the top of the trees.  She’s added red embroidery floss to the tree to add a nice touch.

Merry & Bright_MS (3)

Only one of our trees ended up being the same pattern.  I too added some embroidery floss to the trees.  Used a white floss and stitched on the snowflake design.  For my other tree, I added the blue & white twine that came with the collection as a garland.  I first thought of using red floss but I didn’t have the right color red .  I was glad to find this unexpected blue & white floss color as my tree decoration.

Merry Christmas Layout (21)

The sketch has two 4×6 photos and then nine 3×3 photos for a total of 11 photos in one layout.  I love layouts that allow this many photos.  The hardest part for me is always narrowing down my photos to the number in the layout.  I take a lot of photos and then I am emotionally attached to all the people in the photos so it’s hard to reduce but it’s so worth it to create a clean balanced layout.

Merry & Bright_MS (2)

We only used two other of the same pattern papers on the main part of the layout, the diagonal stripe and the diamond (in my tree).  This 12 Days of Christmas collection has a ton of papers, it’s pretty awesome that you can customize the colors for your layout.

Merry Christmas Layout (10)

I added this little sentiment with a brad to the top of the page.  This was also part of the collection. I had to include this great photo of my sister with the cute felt owl she received in the ornament exchange.

Merry Christmas Layout (2)

I love the location that Michelle chose for her journaling.  It’s a good place not to detract from the beautiful trees.  We both picked the joy tag to put in the bottom right!

Merry & Bright_MS (5)

Thanks to Michelle for taking photos and letting me sharing them with everyone on Laurel Lane.  Also, we’d like to thank our favorite source of scrapbooking inspiration Allison Davis for the great sketch once again!  We are two of your BIGGEST fans!!

Santa Time Layout

Today is Day 4 of the 12 Days of Christmas posts on Laurel Lane.

One of my favorite things about scrapbooking is creating traditions.  I love taking my kids to visit Santa and have an album that has all the photos since they were babies.  This is the page from last year with Santa and it’s the 4th layout in the book.

There’s always so much focus on mini-albums, this is a themed album all the way through but it’s a maxi album because it’s a big 12×12!  It’s a beautiful red Christmas album.  I love putting this album out at Christmas time.  I am planning to fill this book up with photos of the kids visiting Santa for as long as they’ll let me continue to take them!  15 more years is my goal!!

I’ve used this same sketch since starting the layouts 4 years ago.  Always have a big 8×10 and then a smaller 5×7.   I do vary the size & placement of the paper so that there’s a little variety but I do want to have it look related throughout the album.    When Gavin was a baby we started going with some of his baby friends.   It’s fun to have other friends to go with and we’ve had some fun lunches after meeting Santa.

Santa Time Layout - Laurel Lane Scrapbooking_a (1)

The great part about this sketch is that it highlights the papers & accents very well.    As you can see Gwen cried when she left my arms, she was just 6 months old and it was her first time meeting Santa.  This years trip was last week and she cried again (more persistent than last year).  I am hoping she’ll have fun next year at her 3rd visit, that’s when Gavin finally realized he liked Santa and smiled.

We always go to Nordstrom for the photos, I love their set and the photos are high quality.     I’ll share photos of the other Santa layouts in the book as it might be fun to see the progression.

What are your favorite holiday photo traditions?  I’d love to hear about them!!

Scrapbook & Cards Today Published Layout

image

Day Three of 12 Days of Christmas on Laurel Lane.

imageI am so very excited to share that I have a layout published in the recent Winter 2012 Scrapbook & Cards Today issue!! This is my first ever published layout and I couldn’t be more thrilled.

It’s a beautiful issue with many great layouts, cards and ideas.   The best part is that you can view the entire magazine online!  My layout is on page 58.    You can also find this magazine in the stores too.  Have fun checking it out!

The title of my layout is “may your Christmas be Merry & Bright.”  It features 19 photos and a journaling block that could also be a photo. Yes 19 photos on a 12×12 two page layout!  17 of them are 2×2 and the other two are 4×6’s (trimmed one down to a 4×4).  The sketch I used one of Allison Davis’ from Sketch Support, love her sketches!  I always find with Christmas layouts I want to use more photos on the so that I can tell the story.    This sketch will help you fit them all in!

   SCT_Winter 2012 Publication

Here’s a link to the layout from a prior post and more details about the products used.    Thank you Becky Fleck & Catherine for publishing my layout!  I hope to have many more in your magazine.  Smile

Are you getting lots of time to decorate, craft and bake for the holidays?  I’d love to know what you’ve been doing.   I love the weekends and wish they lasted longer.   We just finished getting the red/green/white lights up outside on the trees today.  The lights on the house were put up during the week and now it has all come together.   It feels so good once the inside and outside is decorated for Christmas!

My sister, Claire, thinks I am going to be blogging on Christmas eve because I’ve committed to doing 12 posts.  I LOVE a challenge especially when someone thinking I can’t do something, it motivates me even more!  I told her the risk is not that I’ll be blogging lets just hope that I don’t am not still scrapbooking to complete this challenge!  Here’s my secret….this next week is my last week of work till 2013 so I plan to have some quality crafting time set aside.

12 Days of Christmas Layout

12 Days of Christmas (3)

Hello! Today is Day 2 of the 12 Days of Christmas posts on Laurel Lane.

Tonight I’d like to share a one-page layout that will be the first page for my holiday 2011 layouts.  I do a separate Christmas album (with only holiday layouts) and I like to do a one-page layout to start the new year with photos that aren’t used in the other layouts.  In this one-pager I typically like to show the small details, decorations or try to capture something significant for our family.  This year was Gwen’s first Christmas (6 months old) and we had a wonderful time opening up some new ornaments from Crate & Barrel (I LOVE their holiday stuff).    It was so much fun to watch her explore the ornaments and try to put all of them in her mouth.    Chris loves to bake so it’s wonderful to remember all the sweet treats that he creates and these gingerbread men were so tasty!  We had fun decorating them.

My layout is based on an Allison Davis sketch from her new vol 2 one-page book.  I used 5 photos just like the sketch but did them in different sizes to fit my photos.  I also had to move the journaling block from the top right to the left side because of the arrangement of the photos.

12 Days of Christmas (1)

Here’s a close up of the stitching I added to the banner flags to help keep them down.  My sewing machine came back from the shop last night and I was so excited to have it working again!!  A few months ago it suddenly stopped working so I took it in to get fixed.  However, when I brought it home it didn’t work for me.  Took it back and turned out it was the foot pedal that had gone bad (I think they used their foot pedal to service it the first time).  I am so glad it’s fixed because I have a stack of layouts that I need to finish with some stitching.

12 Days of Christmas (7)

My favorite part about using the sewing machine is how it holds down the paper so well, you never have to worry about it shifting.
